It’s our pleasure to send you the first information about our 10th European Blues Challenge to be held in Zaandam, Netherlands, next April.
Zaandam, in the municipality of Zaanstad, is a medium-sized town north of the Dutch capital and just a short trip from Amsterdam.
Directly outside the train station of Zaandam is a completely rebuilt shopping esplanade with, e.g. bike rental, taxis and hotels. It will take a 10-minute walk through this shopping esplanade, Gedempte Gracht, to get to an atmospheric area where you can find many pubs and restaurants. This area with streets like the Zuiddijk and Prins Hendrikkade is located at the waterfront of the river Zaan.
You can explore the typical Dutch landscape with completely flat meadows and windmills around the city. The Zaan Region is possibly one of the oldest industrial areas in the world as it was driven by wind rather than steam and this shows up in many old buildings. Zaanstad/Zaandam is also an excellent starting point for cycling trips through the region.
The main EBC 2020 event will be held at the cosy Zaantheater, located on Nicolaasstraat 3 at a walking distance of main hotels, restaurants, bars and shopping areas.
