The winners of the German Blues Challenge 2016 and Semi finalists in Memphis: “Chris Kramer & Beatbox`n`Blues“ have released a Video Clip in Memory of the great Bo Diddley on Facebook and Youtube. The video is released to mark the date June the 2nd, the day of Bo´s death that has its 9th anniversary in 2017, and it should serve as a reminder of our heroes that inspired us to make music ourselves, organize concerts and festivals and to just plain love music.
Very early on Bo Diddley has taken the Blues in a modern direction and with his music he build bridges to other musical genres. Today the German formation „Beatbox`n`Blues“ attempts to build a bridge from Blues to Hip Hop so a new generation can discover that music we all love so much, without forgetting about the old heroes.
Remember the great Bo Diddley together with Chris Kramer & Beatbox`n`Blues
Great Videoclip in memory of the one and only BO DIDDLEY who passed away on June 02. in 2008 and inspired more than one Generation of musicians all over the world.
Following the kind invitation of Boris Hrepic Hrepa, Director of Thrill Blues Festival in Croatia, our new Board member Dave Raven will visit the festival and promote the EBU over there. Trilj is a small city nearby Split, close to the Cetina river and the host town of the first Thrill Blues Festival in mid-July. This is the first time ever that the Cetinska Krajina Region holds a blues festival. The headliner is Eric Sardinas and Big Motor, and other blues artists playing are Light Under The Black Mountain, Sunnysiders, Hal, Ozone and Dbluz. Lot of activities will be organized: concerts, blues workshop for children, degustation of traditional dishes of Trilj and famous rafting on the Cetina River. Many tourists from Central Dalmatia will come to relax with the expected good weather and enjoy the sounds of blues. The festival Director Boris Hrepić Hrepa is the President of Croatian Blues Forces and, naturally, a member of the European Blues Union. His own band, Sunnysiders, was the first Croatian blues band to reach the semi-finals at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
During the weekend of 21-23 April Board members Fred and Roser visited Chorzow in Poland to participate to the Bluestracje Festival. The festival hosted an attractive line-up including Bayou Alligators, Guy Verlinde & the Mighty Gators and Myles Sanko, as well as the wonderful opening of the art exhibition by Danuta Matysik, the “Blues Top 2015” (an award ceremony showcasing the “cream of the Polish blues” with winners of the annual poll conducted among the readers of “Twoj Blues” Magazine), the after party celebration of the 17th anniversary of “Twoj Blues” Magazine and the blues brunch with Boo Boo Davis. Fred and Roser enjoyed the kind hospitality of the whole Matysik family during the whole weekend. It was also a good opportunity to promote the European Blues Union among Polish blues fans.

During 4 days, the Eutin BluesFest in North Germany hosted artists from different European countries including Switzerland, Poland, Sweden and Norway, as well as American artists and even Argentines musicians. Lots of discoveries, former finalists of the International Blues Challenge and the European Blues Challenge and of course some headliners such as Trudy Lynn, Jonn Del Toro Richardson and Shawn Holt & The Teardrops played for an audience that has been esteemed to 10,000 people in 4 days, and all for free.
Among the guests were our Polish friends of Twoj Blues, Trond Johnsen of Bluesnews in Norway, Latvian photographer Aigars Lapsa and at least three Board Members of the European Blues Union. A huge thank you to Helge Nickel and Barbara Bloch for this event that has existed for 28 years.

With great sadness we have known the demise of our friend, EBU member, artistic Director of the Magic Blues Festival and board member of the Swiss Blues Society, Mr. Hannes Anrig
Last year he was honoured with our Blues Behind The Scenes Award for his tireless work to introduce blues and early jazz in Europe since the early seventies and especially New Orleans music either live or producing for more than fifteen years a series of countless and incredible albums with the top or New Orleans musicians through the record label Blueshouse Productions, as well as organizing meetings and parties with Louisiana musicians all over Switzerland.
At the last EBC in Horsens, he was not in good form, but he had pleasure to be together with the Swiss group who came there.
Rest in peace Hannes, we will miss you.
21 blues bands from 21 European countries competed in the beautiful Danish town of Horsens this weekend (March 7-8, 2017). International jury composed of blues professionals chose their favorites:
First Place: Kaz Hawkins Band (United Kingdom)
Second Place: The BluesBones (Belgium)
Third Place: Pascal Geiser Band (Switzerland)
Winners on stage!
